WINE ENTHUSIAST

92  - Châteauneuf du Pape 'Louis Bernard' 2017
'Cassis and black cherry flavors are ripe but maintain purity in this unoaked, fresh-fruited blend of Grenache, Syrah and Mourvèdre. Voluptuous, almost creamy in texture, it's an opulent sip accentuated by fine, feathery tannins and freshened by a crush of minerality on the finish. Best enjoyed now–2027. 'ANNA LEE C. IIJIMA

92  - Hermitage 'Louis Bernard' 2017

'Heady aromas of lavender, lilac and clove perfume this inky, intensely fruit-forward expression of Hermitage. While more open and approachable in its youth than most Syrah from this appellation, it's elegantly structured, too, held upright by tangs of cut stone and taut, persistent tannins. At peak now–2027. 91 - Saint-Joseph 'Louis Bernard' 2017

'This slim, very linear Syrah offers piercing blackberry and black currant flavors perfumed by swathes of green peppercorn, violet and ore. Made from 100% destemmed grapes, it's an elegant, fresh-fruited Saint-Joseph that finishes long on fine, chalky tannins. Best now–2027.'  March 2021

91 - Crozes Hermitage 'Louis Bernard' 2016
'Unoaked and piercing in style, this freshly composed Syrah offers juicy black cherry and tart blueberry flavors edged by whiffs of crushed stone and dried mushroom. It's an excellent value for a such a solid wine and likely to drink well through 2025.'  March 2021

89 - Crozes Hermitage 'Louis Bernard' 2017

'Black plum and blackberry flavors are primary in this crisply concentrated Syrah. Fresh on its feet and intently granitic, it's an invigorating, peppery red framed by fine-grained, chalky tannins. Best enjoyed now–2023.' March 2021
